Revelstoke's Outdoor Art Movement

The joy of public art combines with the joy of skiing.

Revelstoke’s Outdoor Art Movement (ROAM) is the most extensive on-snow art gallery in the world (or so we’re claiming)! It is located throughout Revelstoke Mountain Resort with large and small-scale pieces hidden in gladed runs, next to groomers, and even at restaurants.

What is ROAM?

Transforming Revelstoke Mountain Resort into a canvas, ROAM is a collection of artworks scattered across the mountain, which requires movement to view.

There is no map, no website, and no official guided tour so it’s up to your curiosity to find them. Many, if not most, of the artworks are made from recycled and reclaimed ski gear, inspiring resourcefulness and connection to the sport.

Discover the art.

We suggest asking a friendly face on your next ride up the chairlift or simply dedicating a lap to taking it slow and hunting around.

Check out the groomers, keep your eyes peeled for colourful objects on trees, look above you, and peep into little knooks and crannies around the mountain.

“Much like an untouched powder stash, ROAM’s art is there for those who seek it. Take a new run, ask someone on the chairlift, or simply let curiosity guide you. Be sure to keep your eyes open, there are surprises at every turn.  ” - Revelstoke Mountain Resort

Who's responsible for this?!

Revelstoke is home to incredibly talented artists and creative people. We’ll protect their identities this time but invite you to do your own research!

ROAM has been featured by the media many times including Forbes and National Geographic. You’ll be sure to find interviews with the creative masterminds if you’re curious enough.

Not skiing? Make sure to check out the Art Alleries in downtown Revelstoke. Our whole community is filled with fun and interesting artwork.

Meet Gnorm, The OG art peice.

Jess Leahey, a local Revelstoke resident and artist, took her garden gnome from its resting place in her garden and painted it with cute overalls. Her husband, the Avalanche Forecaster for Revelstoke Mountain Resort at the time, asked her to set it up at the first-ever industry automated weather plot on RMR. That's the origin story behind Gorm the Gnome!

This photographed art piece is a set of three, an ode to Gnorm.

A high brow, snowplow through fine art.

The Masterpiste Gallery, located somewhere near the stoke chair, used to be an old cat road for hauling logs. The new snowplow gallery takes on famous, iconic art pieces with a new lens, made mostly out of recycled skiing and snowboarding materials.

The combination of the joy in public art and the joy of skiing created this explosion of wonder.

“Many of the materials used in the installations come from the very elements, and the people that define the ski and bike culture of Revelstoke—old skis, snowboards, climbing skins, ski goggles, boots, bike tires, and even retired boot tongues. ”
