I’m Oli, an ACMG apprentice ski guide; deeply passionate about ski touring. A few years ago, I found photography and blogging were a match made in heaven. The Uptrack was born to educate backcountry adventurers about the sport, specifically around Revelstoke and Rogers Pass.

Mt Macpherson.

Towering over Revelstoke, the Mt. MacPherson area is chock full of great ski tours. Ski touring it was a dream from the moment I first laid eyes on the peak after moving to Revelstoke back in 2018. Rising to 2,427 metres, its summit spills into a maze of winding gullies, steep chutes, and expansive glades. You'll spend considerable time weaving through old burns and massive trees. Using the Nordic skiing trail system, the Fingers and the Womb are incredibly accessible ski tours, and a great place to start your adventure. Make sure you grab a ski touring day pass from the Revelstoke Nordic Ski Club before beginning the route.

Revelstoke Mountain Resort.

The Revelstoke Mountain Resort, locally referred to as RMR, is not only a gem of a ski resort but also offers some of the best lift-accessed ski touring in Canada. Shorter routes such as Montana Peak and South Bowl are great options if you're looking for a fun backcountry descent with a quick jaunt back inbounds. Greely Trees is tucked away behind Greely Bowl. It's a short walk that rewards you with fantastic old-growth skiing - some of the best in Revelstoke. Don't forget to pack your climbing skins! For the extreme adventurers out there, Ghost Peak offers a true ski-mountaineering experience with stunning views of the Southern Selkirks, but requires a full day of travel. To access those areas, purchase a lift ticket from RMR's guest service booth or book online.

Corbin Pass.

Corbin Pass is one of the most accessible ski touring spots near Revelstoke. Located right off the Trans-Canada Highway at the western edge of Glacier National Park (Rogers Pass). You literally clip in at the brake check parking lot, on the highway's doorstep. Being a busy safety stop for truckers, park your vehicle out of the way of the trucking traffic. The ascent follows a mix of logging road and magical old-growth forest, resulting in a relatively mellow climb. Up top, you’ve got two options: steep avalanche paths or open, playful cut blocks stacked with pillows. Either way, Corbin Pass offers a solid descent right back to your vehicle. It’s my go-to on storm days when the avalanche hazard is high - just steer clear of the main cut block, which slides often.

Rogers Pass.

If you’ve never been, Rogers Pass is a backcountry skier’s paradise - truly one of Canada’s true ski touring meccas. Towering peaks, deep snow, and wild, untamed terrain define this place. Tucked within the heart of Glacier National Park (the Canadian one, not to be mistaken for its U.S. namesake), it offers a raw and powerful mountain experience... not for the faint of heart. It’s also the kind that lures you back, season after season, as it has for me. Honestly, a week might only scratch the surface. As with all the tours above, it's best to hire an ACMG-certified ski or mountain guide to explore its complex terrain.
