Shoulder Season Survival Guide

A survival guide to November.

November often has a knack for feeling like a never-ending month. The sun sets by 4:30 pm, restaurants echo with emptiness as they await the impending winter crowds, and the once-inviting trails now lay closed.

For those whose wallets won't quite stretch to a spontaneous Mexican getaway, it's all too easy to find yourself in a mopey state, counting down the days till the alpine is drowning in snow. But worry not, intrepid soul! Having weathered countless Novembers right here in Revy, we've created the ultimate Shoulder Season Survival Guide to rescue you from your despair!

Local Deals Go Loco!

As the new staff seep into our fine food and beverage establishments, the deals are fire. They need the training for the winter season and we get the deals!

A couple of notable annual deals we can count on every November include La Baguette's seasonal $5 bagel sandwiches, Village Idiot Pizza Week, Craft Beirhaus Mac Mondays, and Taco Club's taco week deals.

Revelstoke restaurants also take part in a Burger Challenge at the end of November, to see who can come up with the best burger.

Movie Night.

Shoulder season is when a fresh batch of movies comes out. Almost every Friday and Saturday you'll see screenings of movies with big-name pros as well as pubs playing the newest GoPro edits of local shredders. It's the perfect way to keep the stoke alive and cure your impatience as you await the first turns.

Roxy Adventure Film Fest happens each year bringing local and international films to Revelstoke, along with GREAT raffles on skis, heli-trips, etc.

Fit Check.

Scower the shops for great last-season deals, and explore the ski swaps, the circle sales, and Facebook Marketplace for the best deals on outdoor attire. We also recommend searching through the thrift shops in town for denim on denim or retro jumpsuits. Those are highly recommended on the unofficial gnar day.

At the tail end of November, in line with Black Friday sales, the Revelstoke Community puts on Moonlight Madness, a noon-to-moon shopping experience that celebrates supporting locals with stellar deals. Head to Facebook and search 'Moonlight Madness Revelstoke' to find more info as it changes slightly each year!

More Energy!

The wise words of Arnold Schwarzenegger "Down, up, come on - more energy!" How do you expect to ski the longest vertical in North America or ride through blower pow if you're still clinging to your couch, cozy and complacent? It's time to shed the weight from all those summer patio beers.

Hit up Karve Fitness or Keystone Health for fitness training, conditioning workouts, and physio (if things just aren't feeling good).

Education.

As we prep for the winter season ahead, backcountry tourers should study up on the Winter Permit by Parks Canada. This permit requires passing a knowledge test but allows you to tour in Rogers Pass.

All backcountry users should complete an Avalanche Safety Training course or freshen up their knowledge. All backcountry users know, it's no joke out there & safety comes first.

Check all your equipment to make sure it is up to date and there are no recalls on any of your equipment (no one can forget the Pieps recall of 2022).

Internet Stalking.

It's only ok to stalk the webcams. Gnorm loves being looked at and the rainy days in the valley don't feel as glum when Gnorm is getting absolutely pitted.

The Revelstoke Snowmobile Club puts their Yheti cam back online in November so all the sledders can start frothing other the alpine snowfall too!
