About The Workshop
This training acts a baseline for understanding how trauma-informed and culturally sensitive communications go to benefit authentic kinship-building practices with those you serve. The q'sapi training was developed from the law of story. 'q'sapi,' is how syilx people start their old stories, it means "a long time ago".
The workshop intends to honour Indigenous voices and reduce the harm caused by perpetuating harmful narratives and misrepresentations. Often, it’s because of the lack of understanding that comes from not knowing the protocols around meaningful communications, accurate and authentic imagery, or not understanding cultural terms of engagement.
This workshop is built to engage communicators, storytellers, digital designers, frontline workers who work within communities or with Indigenous Peoples, media relations, government officials, government workers, corporate business or anyone interested in learning more about protocols and Indigenous teachings that support positive connections.

About The Facilitators
kelsie kilawna and Lauren Marchand are syilx, Secwepemc, and Sinixt mothers, writers, and artists who both work, live, and ceremony on their homelands in what has briefly been known as the Okanagan in the central interior of BC.
The sisters were born and raised in nk̓maplqs (head of the Okanagan Lake), within the colonial boundaries of the Okanagan Indian Band, where they grew up learning their cultural teachings and protocols through arts-based storytelling and ceremony practices embodied through art.
As Indigenous storytellers, they have inherently always practiced a different standard of awareness because of the collective and egalitarian ethics that guide syilx people. They share a collective responsibility to care for life and spirit within all existences. Utilizing their professional skills and kwulencuten-given gifts, alongside following their cultural protocols, the sisters offer a unique array of services built on their guiding responsibilities.
