Join us for an unforgettable day at the Revelstoke Stop of the Sinixt Upper Columbia Canoe Journey, where nature and community unite! Paddle alongside the traditional dugout canoes, discover the secrets of nature in our medicinal plant workshop, enjoy live performances by Sinixt Members, witness the traditional art of cooking at our salmon 'fire-cooking' demonstration, and savour a delicious, freshly-prepared salmon dinner to conclude the festivities.

Event Activities
Public Paddle
Martha Creek | 9:30 AM - 1:30 PM
The public is invited to paddle alongside the Traditional Sinixt Dugout Canoes from Martha Creek to 5 Mile Boat Launch. We anticipate this paddle will take 2-3 hours, depending on your skill level.
Please note you will need to bring your own flotation device and safety gear to paddle alongside the Sinixt. Previous paddling experience is recommended, as it's essential that everyone is prepared and self-sufficient to ensure a safe and fun trip.

Plant Workshop With Knowledge Keepers
School District 19 Office | 9:00 AM & 2:00 PM
Join us for a hands-on plant fibre processing and traditional medicine making workshop led by Sinixt knowledgeable keeper Faith Zacherle and native plant specialist Rob Crandall. Learn about traditional plant uses and their significance to the Sinixt people. This workshop is a unique opportunity to connect with indigenous culture and deepen your understanding of local flora.
This workshop will be offered at two different times, one in the morning and another in the afternoon.

Traditional Salmon 'Fire-Cooking' Demonstration

The Sinixt Members and the public are invited to join Knowledge Keeper Ric Desautel in demonstrating a traditional way to cook Salmon.

Canoe Journey Community Dinner Celebration
Community Centre | 4:30 PM - 8:30 PM
Come join us at the Revelstoke Community Centre for a night of celebration and community spirit. Help us welcome the Sinixt into our Community, as they pass through Revelstoke on their way to the Kettle Falls Salmon Ceremony in Washington, USA.
This in-person event will showcase the rich cultural heritage of the annual Sinixt Upper Columbia River Canoe Journey. Get ready to immerse yourself in traditional songs and stories from the Sinixt and enjoy a salmon feast prepared by the Revelstoke Community Kitchen.
Adult tickets cost $15 for and child tickets are free. Only 65 tickets are available, so reserve your spot today! This event is sponsored by Tourism Revelstoke, allowing 100% of ticket sales to be donated to the Sinixt to support them in their annual journey south.
