your 7 day guide to revelstoke.

Revelstoke is the perfect place to recharge and take in nature. This itinerary can be as active as you want to make it; all of the hikes have moderate or more challenging options. Download our hiking guide here.

Downtown Revelstoke has tons of great patios where you can sip a drink and watch the world go by. We have three yoga studios in town, so check their schedules and work a little stretching and calm into your visit.

day one

Lake Revelstoke.
Lake Revelstoke.

Start your day off with a delicious breakfast at the Main Street Cafe. Take in Mackenzie Avenue, downtown Revelstoke, and the backdrop of the Monashee and Selkirk Mountains. After breakfast, walk from the cafe to the Greenbelt, where you can stroll along by the banks of the Columbia River. The Greenbelt is a great place to bird watch; keep your eyes out for osprey, woodpeckers, eagles, and yellow warblers.

In the afternoon, rent a stand up paddleboard, canoe, or kayak, or book a guided stand up paddling trip, and head for Lake Revelstoke. Here you’ll find quiet beaches, picnic spots, and plenty of launch points. Explore the many creeks and waterfalls that flow into Lake Revelstoke. Check out our tour providers; Fine Line SUP and Fly, Great Canadian Tours, and Natural Escapes.

(Today is all about exploring Glacier National Park. Start with breakfast in town - we recommend trying whatever the daily special benedict is at La Baguette and grabbing a lunch to go for your day out and about.

Drive East on the Trans Canada Highway towards Glacier National Park. Head for the Rogers Pass Discovery Centre where you can pick up your National Parks Pass and learn a little bit more about Glacier National Park and its history. Choose a hike in the Rogers Pass area depending on your experience, energy and fitness levels. The Asulkan Valley is a gorgeous day hike, around 14 km return. The Great Glacier Trail is about 6.4 km return and offers incredible views of the Illecillewaet Glacier. If you’d prefer to skip the climb, the Meeting of the Waters and Loop Brook Trails both offer short walks on level ground.

From there, head back West to town, taking the time to stop at the Hemlock Grove Boardwalk, Giant Cedars Boardwalk, or Skunk cabbage Boardwalk along the way. All of these short walks are a great chance to check out our unique interior rainforest.

day three

Halcyon Hot Springs Revelstoke

It’s time to kick up your feet and relax. Start with a smoothie or breakfast at Dose Cafe before heading for Halcyon Hotsprings, about an hour south of town on Highway 23S. While you’re en route, take the opportunity to drive down to Blanket Creek Provincial Park and check out magnificent Sutherland Falls on your way; it’s a short stroll from the car and well worth the effort. Take the ferry across the Upper Arrow Lakes and enjoy the mountain views from the deck.

The hot springs are about 10 minutes from the ferry. Make sure you book any massages or spa treatments ahead of time. Soak in the atmosphere of the Kootenays while you luxuriate in Halcyon’s thermal waters. Make sure to eat in the Kingfisher Restaurant while you’re there; the food is excellent and the views are great.

day four

View of Miller Lake Mount Revelstoke National Park
Miller Lake, Mount Revelstoke National Park.

Grab an incredible coffee and baked goods at The Modern Bakeshop before heading to Mount Revelstoke National Park. The Modern has plenty of options to fuel you for your day out and about.

Mount Revelstoke National Park is conveniently located right next to town, and the Meadows in the Sky Parkway provides easy access right to the top of the park. Drive the 26 km road to the top, making sure to stop at the various viewpoints along the way. These viewpoints offer some of the best views of Revelstoke and the Monashee Mountains.

When you arrive at the summit, you have a few choices. If you feel like a longer hike, head to Miller and Eva Lakes. These gorgeous alpine lakes are accessed by a trail that is about 7km each way, without too much elevation gain or loss. If you just want to relax and check out the alpine plants and wildflowers at the summit, there are a number of short hikes accessible from the summit.

day five

glass-blowing-arts-cuture-big-eddy

Revelstoke’s art scene is blossoming, and no visit to Revelstoke would be complete without engaging with our local arts scene. For today’s itinerary, we recommend bringing a bike to get around or renting one from one of our local bike shops.

Book a glass blowing workshop with Leah at Big Eddy Glass Works. She’ll give you a choice of items and help you create your own unique Revelstoke souvenir.

Check out the Revelstoke Visual Arts Gallery, which has exhibitions throughout the year. It is open part of the work from noon to four; check their website for current openings and exhibitions.

Downtown, check out the Revelstoke Museum and Archives to learn about Revelstoke’s fascinating and varied history. Next to the museum is the Heritage Garden, a great place to sit and relax for a few minutes. Also downtown are Revelstoke’s Art Alleries, a number of public artworks located in alleyways in the core of downtown.

Finish your day off with a well earned cocktail and dinner at the Quartermaster Eatery.

day six

hiking-resort

Head to Revelstoke Mountain Resort, where lift accessed hiking and fabulous views are on the menu. Choose from among Revelstoke Mountain Resort’s many alpine trails. The Greely Lake trail is a favourite; leading to a beautiful subalpine lake nestled beneath the peak of Mount Mackenzie. Enjoy the views from the Mackenzie Outpost at the top of the Revelation Gondola (the Mackenzie Outpost has some of the best burgers in town).

While you’re at the resort, there are plenty of higher adrenaline activities for you to do. Check out their Play All Day pass, which gives you access to the Pipe Mountain Coaster, the Aerial Adventure Park, and Disc Golf on top of the gondola and hiking.
When you’re done exploring, the Rockford Patio is a great place to relax, take in the mountains, and enjoy a pint of local Mount Begbie Brewing Beer.

day seven

Start your day off right with breakfast at the Old School Eatery (the chicken and waffles are a locals’ favourite).

For your last day, take your last chance to revel in the beauty of our inland rainforest. One of our favourite places to forest bathe is the Inspiration Woods trail in Mount Revelstoke National Park. This easy 3 km walk takes you into the heart of Revelstoke’s rainforest, through dense trees and over small creeks.

We also recommend taking the short hike to Begbie Falls, a beautiful waterfall that cascades through lush forest.
