Revelstoke, BC – Unaffected by wildfires

Yes, it’s true: BC currently has over 335 active wildfires. It’s a bit smokey, and our hearts are with the communities that are in danger. We are grateful that here in Revelstoke, we do not have any active fires in the immediate area. Here are some of our suggestions for great things do to in the area while you’re waiting for the smoke to clear…

1. Explore the forests
This is actually probably the best place to be, seeing as the trees help improve air quality! Check out our Hiking Map for some inspiration, or see #8 for something a little more unique.

2. Check out our museums & galleries
If you want to stay indoors, we have the Revelstoke Museum & Archives, the Revelstoke Railway Museum, the BC Interior Forestry Museum, the Revelstoke Visual Art Gallery, the Revelstoke Dam Visitor Centre, and the Rogers Pass Historical Centre to discover; this should take up at least a whole day to visit them all. Visit the guide here.

3. Visit Nels Knickers in Mount Revelstoke National Park
The smoke might hinder the view, but not the experience of leaning into Nels Knickers!

4. Get Wet!
Exploring the quiet shorelines of Lake Revelstoke by canoe, kayak, or stand-up paddleboard is still an excellent way to spend the day. If you’re after more of a thrill, we’ve got two awesome white water rafting companies ready to take you for a ride! The fishing is pretty fantastic too, and we now have a new guided sport fishing charter in the area! Check out our Watersports page.

5. Ride The Pipe mountain coaster
And while you’re there, catch a lift to the top of the gondola to experience their new hiking trails. Learn more here.

6. Go shopping
Our historical, charming, downtown core is home to some incredible shops and local galleries. Outdoor sports shops, boutiques that feature handmade goods from Canadian artists, a specialty kitchen shop, a florist with a wide selection of succulents & air plants, and one of the best independent book stores in BC. Learn more here.

7. Eat, drink & be merry
With over 40 dining options, our food scene is not what you would expect for a small town. Pick from Japanese, Mexican, East Indian, German, Vietnamese, fine-dining, pizza… the list goes on. Or take yourself on a craft beer and cocktails tour – we even have one watering hole that has over 25 craft beers on tap! Check out our listings here.

8. Take to the trees at SkyTrek & The Enchanted Forest
Did you go to the Enchanted Forest when you were a kid? We did too. You know what? It’s still awesome! Tack on the ropes course at SkyTrek and that’s your adventure for the day.

9. Go chasing waterfalls
Another great way to beat the heat (and the smoke) is to visit Sutherland, Moses, and Begbie Falls. Bonus points if you find the hidden waterfalls in the inlets on Lake Revelstoke. Check out the Hiking Map here.

10. Dance the night away
The Revelstoke Street Festival brings free live music, every night of the week, outdoors in the Grizzly Plaza. Check out our weekly events calendar to see what live music the local pubs have lined for the night.
